Transmission Service

Meet the author  read more>>

The most complicated working component of your vehicle is the Automatic Transmission. A neglected transmission, which has not been serviced regularly, will be very costly in repairs.

Transmission Service intervals can vary depending on if you tow with your vehicle, if you do a lot of off road driving or if your simply going to the grocery store and running errands. The manufactures suggested Transmission Service can range anywhere from 15,000 miles to 60,000 miles.

A typical transmission service consists of:

  • draining the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)
  • removing and cleaning the transmission pan
  • replacing the transmission filter and the sealing gasket
  •  filling the transmission with the appropriate ATF fluid
  •  running the vehicle to normal operating temperature
  • test drive and recheck ATF fluid  for appropriate level

With any routine transmission service we will check for ATF fluid condition for being dirty or burnt. Poor fluid conditions will validate a service regardless of mileage.

If you find that your transmission seems to slip, or fall out of gear your ATF fluid level may be low and this may only require a top off of fluids. However, with this in mind, your transmission and possibly the connecting lines and hoses will need to be checked for leaks. Here at Polar Automotive and Radiator, we can help you with all of your transmission needs.
